Christmas Mince Pies – mince meat recipe

If you want to make homemade little christmas pies here is how to make the mince recipe.  You need to make it one month before Christmas and store/bottle it in airtight glass jars.


450 grams suet (raw beef or mutton fat)

450 grams currants

450 grams sultanas

110 grams mixed peel

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon mixed spice

450 grams sugar

450 grams raisins

450 grams apples (granny smiths work best – the green ones)

2 lemons

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 wine glass of brandy

Peel the lemons slowly.  Boil the peel and add a little water until soft.  Then drain.  Mix and mince all the rest of the ingredients together.  Bottle in airtight glass jars until ready for use.
