Date Loaf

Putting this together doesn’t take long and only requires with one hour baking once ingredients are ready.  This delicious loaf that come be whipped up in no time.  Something sweet about a Date Loaf.  Dates are such a delicious treat on their own and so tasty in a loaf.

Date Loaf

2 tablespoons of organic butter

3/4 cup caster sugar (150 grams)

1 teaspoon of mixed spice

1 and 1/2 cups self-raising flour (145 grams)

8 ounces dates (225 grams) chopped in small pieces

1 cup of water

1 teaspoon of baking soda

Tip:  For something extra you can add some chopped up pecan nuts and or currants

Take out a saucepan add the butter, sugar, dates (pecan nuts and currants if desired), water, mixed spice and bring to the boil.  Take off the stove and allow to cool.  Once cooled stir in the baking soda.  Then mix in the flour.   Grease a loaf tin – 8 inch (20 cm) x 5 inch (12 cm).  Line the base with baking paper.  Bake in a moderate oven 180 degree celsius or 350 degrees fahrenheit for one hour.
