Valentine’s Day is on February 14th – Why do we celebrate this day?

Three major ideas about the origin of Valentine’s Day.

1/  The most celebrated is the belief that in Ancient Rome when Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage as he believed men made better soldiers who weren’t married.  One of his Saints – St. Valentine thought it was outrageous and continued to marry people.

2/ In the U.K. and France in the Middle Ages it was believed February the 14th was the beginning of the bird’s mating season.

3/ Lastly, the giving of cards between lovers and friends on Valentine’s Day began in the 19th Century when printing became more widely accessible.
